Modern light oak dining tables have become increasingly popular within the past decades, due to the combination of their contemporary aesthetics alongside the soft neutrals of natural wood. Home-owners are looking for the long-lasting quality of hardwoods such as oak yet without the yellow tones associated with some lacquered tables. Oak as a hardwood remains a reliable and long-lasting choice for the dining table. However, the finish of the oak, has a marked effect on the interior design of the dining room and kitchen.

Today many discerning customers favour the Scandinavian aesthetic of white wood or the light oak dining table, finished using white pigmented wood oils. Oiling oak in such a way gently negates any yellow hues associated with cheap lacquer/varnish, naturally lightening the oak by depositing white pigments within the woodgrain. This is pioneering contemporary craftsmanship, with the final look of these white wood dining tables remaining a natural neutral whilst providing modern uplift to your dining room interior.

Classic Mid Century Modern design was dominated by oiled hardwoods such as teak and walnut, which gathered global acclaim at that time. The turn of the century saw a shift across the western world to lacquered and varnished oak as the preferred choice for dining room furniture, which proffered a satin sheen with golden, yellow hues. The timeless appeal of native European blond woods such as oak has continued yet with a changing expectation as to how the light oak is finished. White wood oiling is especially popular with the makers of contemporary oak dining tables as it protects the wood whilst leaving a very low sheen finish. The wood oils can also be pigmented to subtly lighten the oak tables or used without pigment. If natural non-pigmented oil is used on oak, it works to enhance the natural beauty of the wood grains without leaving the yellow satin sheen associated with the lacquered dining table of the 80’s & 90’s.

Light Oak Dining Tables Extendable

Natural oak dining tables facilitate an ideal setting for conversing and cherishing memories with those we love. All of our dining room tables are expertly handcrafted in the European workshops using only FSC®-certified oak. Some of the models include in-built extension leaves concealed within the table design, or the ability to store the extension leaves within the table whilst not in use. Please note if these capabilities are not stated in the details section of the desired dining table, the extension leaves will need to be stored separately from the table. To enjoy your light oak dining table and 6 chairs without sitting guests at table ends, it is essential there is adequate length available. The longest oak tables available at Shekåbba are 220cm, before extending, with an additional 100cm of length with both extension leaves. Each of the dining tables, chairs and  light oak dining benches are tested for strength, durability and safety with some of our white wood dining tables have passed L2 testing, ensuring suitability of use in the commercial environment.  Each of our light oak dining table and chairs come with a 10-year quality warranty covering any manufacturing faults.

The light oak and black dining table has alluring contemporary aesthetics with it’s bold tonal contrasts. The juxtaposition of black lacquered steel set against the natural light oak table top is a sought after modern look. Enjoy the Link & Frame dining tables, both available with black or grey lacquered steel legs and light FSC® oak table tops. These tables are available with solid white oak table tops, which provide a stunning compliment to the industrial lacquered steel frames. Here is the epitome of luxury modern wood dining tables and Danish sensibility. The round oak dining table has been a classic for centuries and is especially preferable for those wanting to maximise the sense of space in their home. Finished with white pigmented oils the light oak round dining table continues to be popular choice for the smaller kitchen or interiors designs wanting to minimise hard lines.

Essentially, light is a key feature of modern interior design, and the appeal of the light oak dining table pulls strongly from a tradition of Nordic light play. The modern aesthetic favoured by so many today is dependant on the presence of both the correct amount and type of light within a certain space. The meteoric rise of open plan kitchen-diners with walls of bi-folding glass to the exterior is strongly linked to the necessity of light. The furniture within our interiors strongly affect the dynamics of light, with the best lights being created when reflected off natural materials. The white pigmented woods and light oak dining table and chairs reflect more light than their darker wood or yellow lacquered counterparts. This reflection contributes to a brighter natural light being present in the dining room or kitchen, creating a calm contemporary aesthetic that still has the warmth of natural wood.

It is interesting to note the natural vibrancy which contemporary oak dining tables bring to an interior space. Light oak dining sets comprising both the light oak dining table and chairs, are consistently chosen to provide interiors with both modernity and natural warmth. The natural oak dining tables can add character and depth to a modern living space through their playful woodgrains and warm neutral tones. Across the world, designers may refer to light wood dining tables as white wood or white oak dining tables, a term made popular in the United States. In essence, the white-pigmented oil used across Scandinavia, can be used on the entire range of modern oak dining tables including oak breakfast tables, small oak dining tables and all variations of solid oak dining tables, if it is applied during the manufacturing process. However, it is important to note that without surface removal and significant effort, it is not possible to lighten a finished dining table by simply applying a white-pigmented oil with a cloth.
